No one knew where the gates came from, the wondrous planet sized globes whose millions of facets led to destinations across the Universe. No one knew what had killed the thousands of civilizations that had once roamed space across the billions of years since the origin point. Whatever it was, it was back, with a vengeance, destroying the intelligences that might challenge its hegemony of multi-dimensional space. It is up to a few humans, endowed with the very powers the creatures’ fear, to save sentient life in the Universe, and end the threat forever.
Lucille Yamamoto is a warrior, the captain of an Earth Navy battle-cruiser. Howard Turner is a wealthy scientist, physicist turned archeologist, trying to discover the secrets of the ancients. Siobahn Hunsicker is the child of mercenaries, controlling powers she does not understand. Together the three are the only hope for the extant intelligences of the Universe. If they have the time to survive the learning curve and challenge the weavers of reality.

I have just completed reading this story and had to write a review here. I think that it's a very, very good book. 4.5 to 5 stars. As some of you may know from my reviews, if I feel that a book is sub-standard or has one or more areas of appropriate criticism then I will definitely write a review and say so. I read many SF books and I don't bother to write reviews for most of them. But when I do read the rare very good to great book that I feel I must write a review. And so here it is. I really enjoyed this book. It was inventive and creative (many SF books really aren't!), a good plot, good characterizations, and a good ending. The multi-verse aspect was well thought out and described by the author. Most SF authors can't do that with technical and conceptual subjects but this one can. I note that the author has written a lot of manuscripts and I think that he has many more good stories to tell and publish. I would encourage him to write and publish more. I will be looking for more of his work as soon as it comes out. I would encourage more people to read this book and add more reviews here so that people will know this is a good book to buy and read. I would suggest to the author a better cover image and tell you that the cover is not really eye catching but that the book is very good. Read it and enjoy!Product details

The Shadows of the Multiverse eBook Doug Dandridge Reviews
I thourly enjoyed reading this book. I am going to try some more of these. I was continuasly entertained by it.
I had read one of the author's books when it was free. I liked it and decided to read another one and I liked it even better. It was fun to read a book where the good guys do well. The science fiction aspect is tens of thousands of years in the future and I was impressed with the descriptions. I'd certainly recommend this book and now I'm off to try another one.
This is the first book that I read that correctly captures the vastness of space within the solar system itself and the huge population it can support. We are finally talking hundreds of billions of sentients instead of a few million on a "colonized" planet. We are talking thousands of mega-ships instead of a couple here and there.
A little slow in the start but picking up rapidly as the story progressed. Really interesting characters with the potential for a second novel or more in the future. One of my favorite story tellers.
The story plot is very good, the writing and descriptions are also good. Characters are interesting but often quite one dimensional. At several points logic was tenuous at best. The Captains stubborn denial of what her very skeptical crew had already accepted as being fact being one, another being the mutiny that was simply irrational at every level. Fleet battles with the entities went on and on forever despite the fact it was all futile. And finally, the end was not satisfying. Yeah, I'm a happy ending person, and while this does have a happy ending of sorts, I wasn't happy.
This is a very good story but it could be rewritten into a much better book.
The thing that stands out most about this book is, it's a really fantasy. Sort of a neat story, though at times the battles seem a little drawn out and tedious. Having said that, some of the premises of the tale really don't hold water, at least to me. To start with, the group hive type of civilization lives in a small universe that is alien to our form of life. So alien that we could not survive, unprotected, in it for even a few seconds. And yet, creatures from that universe don't find our environment so alien to them that they can survive quite nicely. The solution to saving the world and defeating the bad guys left me a little cold. Our heroin, along with the child and the man have to become GODS. I think that the book would have been more satisfying if science, ingenuity and bravery had some how found a solution to this big threat. I really like some of the authors books, but this one wasn't up to the others standards. But then, I'm not a big fan of fantasy books.
Maybe it was the density of the text (the leading is unchangeable and way too tight), maybe it was the detail of the battles, not sure -- but this book seemed to go on forever. When one skims a great deal of what are supposed to be exciting battle scenes it indicates a lot of trimming is needed.
The story is a battle between good and evil, god and satan. It's setting up a new mythology. It's a different premise than any I've read before, which is interesting. A god origin story, or a "Childhood's End" setup. I would've liked less battle and more about each of the three main characters and more "what happens next." The characters are not really filled out -- even the main character is not that well formed. Needed more back story for each of three main characters and fewer anti-matter bombs.
I thought the penultimate end was just wrong -- I don't want to say anything more because I don't want to add spoilers.
Would I buy another book by Dandridge? Yes, probably.
